Festivities to commemorate Enterprise landing
The 175th anniversary of the Enterprise landing is being commemorated on February 18 with festivities at Barr’s Bay Park. Hosted by the Corporation of Hamilton, the event will kick off at 5.30 pm and will see the unveiling of a statue We Arrive by sculptor Chesley Trott [pictured above].

Acclaimed novelist Brian Burland dies

City Hall celebrates 50 years
Hamilton’s City Hall is celebrating its 50th anniversary. Designed by acclaimed Bermudian architect Wil Onions, it was officially opened on February 11, 1960. Lane School building is protected from development
Moonray Manor on East Broadway, which was built as the Lane School, one of the first two schools established for black children following Emancipation, is now a listed building, a status that will protect it from development. Girl Guides mark 100 years
Bermuda’s Girl Guides are this month observing the centenary of the Girl Guide movement. Events include its annual Thinking Day service on Sunday, February 22. See our bio of Millicent Neverson, who introduced the first black Girl Guide company to Bermuda.
Seaplane to get new lease on life
Volunteers are being sought to help restore a vintage seaplane that belonged to Bermuda aviation pioneer Commander E. M. Ware. The seaplane, which was featured in the movie Bermuda Affair, was discovered during the restoration of Palmetto House in Devonshire. Anyone wishing to help with the restoration effort should email Frank Williams.
Latin jazz and theatre classics
