1908Born near Didsbury, Alberta, Canada 1926-1930 is a student at the Winnipeg School of Art 1930sstudies sculpture at the Ontario College of Art and later moves to Europe 1935returns to Canada, leaving her husband behind in Spain 1936establishes the deMarin School of Sculpture in Winnipeg 1940joins the faculty of the Winnipeg School of Art and teaches there for three years 1946moves to Bermuda 1948begins a stint as an instructor at the Bermuda School of Art 1952bust of Davy Douglas, a well-known carriage driver, is exhibited in Toronto 1954 float “Surf Riding” wins top prize for A. S. Cooper’s at the annual Floral Pageant. 1958receives commission for the Anglican Cathedral reredos 1959designs (with John Kaufmann) and makes dancers’ costumes for My Heart Stays Here, a production based on Shakespeare’s The Tempest, performed in honour of Bermuda’s 350th anniversary. 1962the first Cathedral statue, of Christ, is installed and dedicated in July. Seven more statues are in place by Christmas. 1966dies with five statues unfinished. |
